Roll out for the development of Comprehensive Infrastructure Plans The President has said in his state of the Nation Address that: “We will also integrate the programme to speed up the development of sustainable human settlements, with intensified efforts, as a matter of urgent priority, to accelerate universal access to water, sanitation and electricity, so that by 2014, we should have decent human settlements and access by all households to these services.” In response to the call, the dplg is in a process to co-ordinate the roll out of the Comprehensive Infrastructure Plans. The plan is an initiative by departments in a mission to use an integrated principle approach by all spheres of government and trying to speed up the provision of services by 2014. The Comprehensive Infrastructure Plan (CIP) will be regarded as a single process to align all plans, data, information and building towards integrated development. This plan aims to provide an enabling mechanism that will bridge the gap between municipal and sector strategies, and integrate the plans between different sectors. There will be 6 teams consisting of professional services and relevant sector and provincial officials to assist all the municipalities in the nine provinces to compile these plans. These teams have been set up to optimize capacity and support to meet the deadline of 29 August 2008.
The teams are grouped as follows: Provinces are requested to advice soon as possible on an appropriate date for the one day training session between 5 and 17 May 2008. As Western and Northen Cape, North West and Free State, Mpumalanga and Limpopo are grouped in teams, a central and appropriate location needs to be identified for their training. Provincial MIG managers are requested to mobilize municipal targeted audience to attend the training sessions once the date and venue have been confirmed in their provinces. Please take note that the proposed date should not overlap with the dates set for the IDP analysis week in your province. Just watch the space……………………. |
